Greetings, my dear friends and family! I've embarked on a whimsical journey that has led me to the enchanting land of New Zealand – a place I've held close to my heart for as long as I can remember.
So, picture this: New Zealand, a country that's practically rubbing shoulders with Antarctica, a mere 4352 km away. Why the obsession with going south? Well, I'm a firm believer in experiencing as much as I feel comfortable with, even if it means vent
uring to the chilly end of the Earth. And let me tell you, folks, it's a tad chilly down here – we're talking springtime highs of 10 degrees, with most days hovering between a cozy 4 and 8 degrees. My wardrobe has never seen so many layers! I still look cute tho.
Now, Auckland, my lovely companions, has quickly become my cozy corner in this frosty paradise. The folks in New Zealand are delightfully simple and nice, and Auckland, being the largest city, offers a smorgasbord of delights. Great food, great people, and, well, anything else your heart desires. Queenstown in the South Island, on the other hand, is like a postcard come to life – so picturesque it might just steal your breath away. But, and here's the kicker, the day I bid adieu to that heavenly place, it decided to throw a watery tantrum, resulting in the evacuation of 68 homes due to a deluge. Talk about a fickle friend!
Now, let me introduce you to my dear friend Manuel, a man who's equal parts sexy,
brilliant, and sweet. He just so happens to be an aeronautical engineer extraordinaire. You know the type – the kind of person who can calculate the trajectory of a rocket while making it look like a walk on the beach. And did I mention he's as charming as a freshly
baked batch of chocolate chip cookies? But, oh, the plot twist – Manuel resides in
Christchurch, a place that seems a world away from my neck of the woods.
Manuel made the bold move from Panama to Christchurch 11 years ago in search of a better quality of life, and boy, has he found it. Money flows easier, and his knowledge and work ethic are respected more than arroz con pollo. Panama just couldn't compete with the allure of this southern paradise. But, and it's a big but, life in Christchurch seems to tread on the side of solitude. He seems content, sure, but living on an island that's both cold and wet for most of the year? Well, let's just say it's not for the faint of heart and I have a faint heart.
Now, Christchurch, my dear friends, is a quaint little city where it seems everyone has a built-in GPS or maybe it is like old Panama were everyone knows everywhere. I'll throw out the most obscure place I can think of, and the Uber and taxi drivers chime in with a confident, "Oh yes, I know exactly where that is!" It is comforting and also makes it clear how tiny this place is.
As I reflect on my adventures, I can't help but think about the tiny towns tucked away in this beautiful country, each boasting its own natural wonder. It's a land best explored with a car taking the scenic route as your guide. I can even envision myself camping or hiking through these breathtaking landscapes during the summer months when the temperature graciously creeps up to a balmy 16 degrees.
And now, the grand lesson from my frosty escapade – I've developed a newfound appreciation for cooler weather, hurray for menopause, though I must admit, I'd gladly trade 6 degrees and perpetual rain for a more inviting 15 to 18 degrees. But hey, it's all part of the adventure, and I'm sending you all my warm (figuratively, of course) love from the chilly edge of the world. Until next time, stay cozy, my dear ones! ❤️🌏❄️
